By embracing sustainable practices in the production of aluminium, we contribute to the circular economy and minimise our impact on the environment.
This includes reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving energy efficiency, and promoting the recycling of aluminium.
As metallurgists, we have to play a critical role in developing innovative solutions and technologies that enable sustainable aluminium production. Our focus must be finding ways to maximise the value of this vital material while minimising its environmental footprint.
AFFORDABLE AND CLEAN ENERGY
Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all
Reducing our dependence on traditional fossil fuel-based production is one of our main tasks. We analyse our energy demand and have discussed options with energy suppliers and technicians to switch towards renewable energy sources.
Since 2021, we have been using 100% renewable electricity, and have taken steps towards production flexibility to contribute to stabilising our electricity grid. This year, we will start installing solar panels on our roofs to increase the share of renewable capacity in Germany.
INDUSTRY, INNOVATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE

For over 75 years, Oetinger has proactively contributed to aluminium production innovation and upgrading its technology fleet.
In the past two years, we have invested almost 11 million euros and further investment projects have been planned in to improve production energy efficiency and environmental protection.
RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION
Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns
Our principles are built on sustainable production, efficient use of natural resources, and support of a circular economy. With over 75 years on the market, we have reached outstanding expertise in producing high-quality aluminium alloys from scrap material, with up to 95% of recycled material in our final products.
However, our mission is not limited just to the production line. We ensure that all our employees have a safe and pleasant working environment, and we carefully select suppliers with the same values we have. This approach has achieved the highest level of satisfaction among customers working with us and has been acknowledged by the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) by providing us with the ASI Performance Standard certification.
CLIMATE ACTION
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
Aluminium is one of the key materials today and will also be in the future, which makes the need to reduce its environmental impact during production a high priority. At Oetinger, we believe urgent action is required and we have defined an ambitious strategy to reach climate neutrality across all our sites by 2040.
Already today, we carefully monitor our production of greenhouse gas emissions and, using the technologies available on the market, we have set a plan to reduce them. We have also introduced several educational activities and deployed various schemes that get our employees involved and excited about the climate-neutral future ahead of us.
